The 4th district shares with the first the privilege to be the oldest part of Paris where there again , you might see in Charlemagne street for exemple, ruins of Hugues Capet strengthened surroundings. It contains an island, Saint Louis Island and the eastern part of another, Cité Island. On the latest, Notre Dame Cathedral and its cloister is the must of the district visit. On Saint Louis Island, make a stop by Berthillon worldwide known ice cream and sherbets maker , except in August where, weirdly enough they close for vacations. Starting from Bastille ang going along Saint Antoine Street, then Rivoli street, you will reach, after passing by the marvellous City hall with the fountains before it, the BHV, one of the oldest Department store of Paris, the Chatelet. Just befor you will see the Tour Saint Jacques dating from the 16th century and whih is being renovated. On the Chatelet place you will find two very famous theatres and Music hall, facing each other, one being the Theatre du Chatelet. Do not miss Beaubourg and taking Rambuteau street, you will go on Francs Bourgeois street (a street very fashionable nowadays) giving on Place des Vosges. On your way stop by Sainte Catherine place, a square with small streets leaving it to lead you to the old jewish part of Paris (schtatel) near Pavée street et rosiers street becaming ready to wear fashion designers streets. Going back to Bastille, using the Henri IV boulevard, you will see the Garde Republicaine barracks, and if you are lucky you will see all these horseriders with their goldy helmets going out of the barracks.
